Special Guest: Bob Haro
We can’t wait to go to this event because we are literally getting to meet one of our heros, the legendary Bob Haro! Known as the godfather of freestyle BMX, Bob Haro’s influence on the sport is unparalleled. If you come to this event (and we hope you do!), not only will you get to meet him, but you’ll get to ride out with him too!
Bob Haro, a pioneer in the BMX world, grew up in Southern California where he was heavily influenced by the skateboard and BMX race scene. As a young lad, he began performing tricks on his BMX bike, which led to the creation of a completely new sport: freestyle BMX. His innovative riding style and artistic designs have inspired generations of BMX riders and enthusiasts – our very own Designer Dave included.
Haro’s contributions to BMX are numerous. He founded Haro Bikes, the first company dedicated to freestyle BMX bikes, and designed the first freestyle frame and fork, revolutionizing the sport. His legacy includes not only the technical advancements in bike design but also the creation of the first trick team, which showcased freestyle BMX to a global audience.
As well as his BMX achievements, Bob Haro was a stunt rider in the iconic BMX chase scene in Steven Spielberg’s “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” bringing freestyle BMX to mainstream attention. His involvement in the sport extended beyond riding and design; he has worked with major brands like Nike, where he contributed to the design of team uniforms for the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic BMX teams. We really hope he likes our designs.
Today, Bob Haro remains a significant figure in the action sports community. He runs Haro Design, a company that collaborates with top brands like Red Bull, Vans, and Oakley on various projects. His influence continues to be felt as he participates in events and engages with fans through social media and public appearances.
